    About Us...

During Suburban’s 50-year existence in Yorktown Heights, NY, it may very well be true that the array of fine wine & spirit products in the world has evolved more dramatically than it had during the previous millennium! Our mission at Suburban has since been not just to keep up with those changing trends, but to be a part of creating them. And more specifically since the mid-1990s, a new demand amongst the American consumers has sent a message loud and clear.... “Give us something interesting and different”.
Our first innovative step toward accommodating this new demand was a 1998 upgrade from your friendly neighborhood liquor store to your friendly progressive and upscale wine & spirits shop! The staff was doubled, and we found ourselves filling more than 5,000 shelf slots with a cross-section of product ranging from old-fashioned to ultra-modern, modest to trendy, quaffable to collectable, and mainstream to esoteric. Our approach has been to offer a cornucopia of alternatives to the everyday brand-name items that all markets seem so weighed down by, and introduce people to the same world that the industry has introduced us to.
Everyday, we take advantage of the diverse NY market that we are fortunate enough to be situated in by tasting through it, label by label, and ultimately connecting the consumer with something a little more special than they expected. The local result is a self-generated community that takes part in our own wine tastings, winemaker dinners and educational seminars. On the national level, we have cultivated intimate relationships with a customer base that seems as passionate as we are about obtaining and enjoying the latest and greatest juice, and are thrilled to have found the ultimate source.
Have a look at what our own staff members have to say about their experience at Suburban Wines, and it will all become much clearer….

“With 19 years in the business, I’ve seen the evolution of Suburban…from being the local “Liquor & Lotto” to becoming a serious and prolific wine shop. A shift in consumer trends, combined with our knowledgeable staff has turned my livelihood into a daily vinous experience.”  -Jerry

“Today, so many wines have become mass-produced consumer products. Yet, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! A growing number of small wineries around the world are making wines that reflect a unique sense of place. I work at Suburban because we seek out and promote many of these food-friendly, sometimes organically-produced wines that keep the market exciting.”  -George W.

“So many great wines are popping up from California and Australia that didn’t exist 2 years ago. I’ve made it my mission to find and obtain the best-kept secrets in the market. New-world wine fans: If you have some favorite winemakers or vineyard sites, and you want to taste what else they’re producing (side projects, collaborations, incognito bottlings), I’m the guy to talk to.” -Jason

“A decade of spirits trends have led to a market full of terrific new products that I’m glad to put into peoples’ hands. From super-distilled vodkas and agave Tequilas to complex elixirs and yummy cream liqueurs, today’s options make this market more diverse and playful than ever.”  -Sondra

“Wine, like art, is an object of beauty, to be admired and discussed by the novice and the connoisseur alike. Inspired by both nature’s elements and human ingenuity, a complex liquid sculpture is coaxed into existence. At first it screams out for attention with its freshness and verve, but as time passes, it appeals more exclusively to those with a more refined taste and an open mind.” –Abra
