Barbancourt Description

Barbancourt is one of the finest rum producers to come out of the Caribbean, and this bottling is a fantastic example of what great rum at a very friendly price can taste like. Haitian rums are certainly not easy to come by these days, but luckily we are still able to get our hands on the well balanced Barbancourt Rhum Reserve Speciale 8 Year. Dupré Barbancourt came from Charente, located in the Cognac region of France, and created the Barbancourt rum recipe in 1862 in Haiti, where the rum is still produced today. Made from hand cut, fresh pressed sugar cane in the ?French tradition? (as opposed to the majority of rum which is distilled from molasses), the rum is double distilled in copper pot stills, then barrel aged in white oak barrels for 8 years. The rum is powerful with an impressive complexity with a balanced mix of oak and smoke; a classic rum in a Haitian style. While the rum is excellent when sipped on its own, it becomes excellent when mixing in a cocktail. Try one of the recipes below that will bring you straight to the Caribbean. Warmer days are ahead! HAITIAN HIGHBALL 3 parts Rhum Barbancourt 8 Yr Rum 4 parts ginger beer 1 part orange curacao 2 dashes bitters 1 splash lime juice 1 slice lime 1 orange wheel Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into highball glass filled with fresh ice and garnish with lime and orange wheel. CARIBBEAN DREAM 3 oz Rhum Barbancourt 8 Yr Rum 2 oz Orange juice 1 oz Passion fruit juice ˝ oz Lime juice 1 oz Grenadine Crushed ice Mix and pour over ice into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon and cherry flag. Tasting Note: Rich, harmonious nose of vanilla, roasted fruit and citrus fruit compote. Full bodied, velvety mouth feel with flavors of light brown sugar, butterscotch, cinnamon, orange peel, banana and a hint of orange peel. Long finish with a hint of anise and a slightly nutty taste that finishes dry. Mild and delicious.
